Blog as communicative tool



With the increased use of computers, a blog has become popular over the years as it gives learners the opportunities to speak their unique voices by frequently updating what’s happening around and allowing readers to comment and start a conversation leading to the development of communication skills and enhance the engagement of individuals in their interested fields. Needless to say, we need to understand what blogs are and their benefits in the classrooms today.
 

What is a blog?

“A blog is derived from the short form of a web blog. It is an online journal where people can share their experiences or information with other readers on any topic,” Raymond, F. (2022).

Blogging is an excellent approach in classroom teaching and learning to engage the students meaningfully on the internet. It provides perfect opportunities to connect with people around the world showing their creativity and skills to the larger community.  

The benefit of Blogs in the teaching and learning

Through blogging, students can easily share what is in their minds with other people without any hesitation enhancing learners’ creativity and analytical thinking skills. Students get a lot of knowledge and learn a lot of new things by reading and writing a blog. They build emotional intelligence and starts thinking from others' perspective resulting in utilizing their knowledge as well as improving creativity in everything as they start thinking out of the box.

Most importantly, blogging helps to develop their social skills. Writing a blog is a kind of communication, through blogging students can write their perspectives and knowledge and share it with other people throughout the world. Also, other people and bloggers can communicate with the students through their blogs encouraging discussion among students. Blogging is a kind of bridge between the students by which they can learn from each other. Nevertheless, it encourages the use of the Internet and the Web among students.

Furthermore, it motivates students to become better readers and writers. In blogging, students write different kinds of articles and blogs which improves their writing skills. For example, they might write about their favorite event, shows, best friend, and last summer trip with families; promoting autonomous learning as they take more control of their learning.
